In my reading for reflection today, I read the following words from Carlo Carretto: “We are not happy because we are unforgiving, and we are unforgiving because we feel superior to others” (from “In Search of the Beyond.”)
Can you guess what Carretto offers as the solution to unhappiness, an unwillingness to forgive, and a feeling of superiority to others?
The answer is “love”. Carretto suggests that when you love someone, you cannot feel superior to that person but rather feel equal to that person. It’s a fascinating notion. Are there people in your life who you do not feel are equals to you? If so, ask whether or not you love those people. Are there people in your life who you will not forgive? If so, ask whether or not you love those people.
Is love the cure or solution to the place in your life in which you are unhappy or unwilling to forgive? Let me know. – Pastor Brad
